The problem with Socialism

"Like O. J. Simpson, our free-market system seems to be put on trial at regular intervals. People love it until it stops working the way they think it should. Then it becomes the villain. Wall street was loved then it was hated. Alan Greenspan was idolized then he was demonized. People envied those who flew in private jets, then they despised them. It's amazing how quickly opinions can change especially when people are looking to blame someone else for their problems. The truth is capitalism is neither good nor evil - it just is. Capitalism can't get you a job, a bigger house or a better retirement - You have to do all of those things for yourself. But what capitalism can do is foster and environment where those with the will to succeed can have a better chance of achieving their dreams. Do hard working people still fall through the cracks? Absolutely. Are their peaks and valleys as excesses in markets are worked out over time? No doubt. But I defy anyone to show me another system that has done as much to quickly raise the standard of living and quality of life of a country as capitalism has for America."

Why has Socialism never worked? It's because the people who run it aren't Socialists. They're Capitalists. Take a look at Cuba, Venezuela, the old Soviet Union or China. The sons and daughters of party members live the life, they live in the nicest houses, they have the nicest cars. The people in power in Socialists societies have the power NOT to be Socialists.
Socialism exists on the premise that we're all equal so we'll take from the one who have and give it out to the ones who don't so everybody's going to have the same - but it never works out that way. Why not? Because there's always going to be a ruling class that going to have everything they want forcing mediocrity and averageness on everybody else.
Socialism is in direct violation of human nature. Capitalism embodies human nature. From freedom and ambition straight down the line. Nobody has every said we need an unregulated economy or markets. Yes you need a referee as in the government. But when the referee starts playing the game then the game simply breaks down. The referee is now owning car companies, trying to own the banking business and of course taking over the health care business. When the government starts playing the game nobody else can compete. Nobody has the money or power to withstand the government.

"Saying that Socialism doesn't work is like saying that Blagojevich did a bad job as Illinois governor. It's vastly understating just how dismal the results really are. In Venezuela, where Socialist reforms have been underway for quite some time, the percentage of people living below the poverty line is still over 40 percent. Hey that's some success story huh? In Loos, another Socialist country, the rate is over 30 percent. The people who would be least surprised by those statistics are our founding fathers. They knew that government could be good but that in practice, almost none of them every where. Even governments that started out with good intentions eventually became too powerful and corrupt. They also knew that people where exactly the opposite. Over time they usually did the right thing and made the right decisions. The result was a system of checks and balances that put significant limits on the size and power of the government while simultaneously unleashing the power of the individual."
